Tragic: Gardaí say they believe the baby boy tragically found dead in Killarney apartment was suffocated




Gardai in Co Kerry investigating the tragic death of an 11-month-old baby boy, have said they suspect he may have been smothered or suffocated.

The little boy whose body was discovered at an apartment in Killarney on Sunday evening will undergo a post-mortem examination later today.
Meanwhile Gardaí say forensic examinations will continue to take place in the apartment. The tragic death was discovered by the baby’s mother at approximately 6pm on Sunday evening when she returned home from work at a hotel in the town.

The woman in her 20’s and from Poland is understood distraught and is currently being questioned by Gardaí.
They also say they wish to interview the man who had been with the baby during the day and was found in the apartment with serious injuries. He is in his 30s and also believed to be from Poland. The man was subsequently taken to Kerry University Hospital in Tralee on Sunday evening and was said to be in a stable condition this morning.

Gardai have released a brief statement in which they revealed that emergency services were called to the Park Place apartment complex in Upper High Street, near Killarney town centre, on Sunday evening. The little baby boy was treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short time later.
