Management at Letterkenny University Hospital have confirmed that a number of restrictions have been put in place after a number of patients have been diagnosed with the CPE (Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacterales) bug.
In an announcement the hospital confirmed that parts of the hospital is closed to the general public following the outbreak.
They also have advised patients to stay away from the A&E Department unless it is a real emergency.
It is understood that a full deep clean at the hospital will take place over the coming days.
The bug is known to cause infections once it enters a person’s bloodstream.
