Up to 60 staff at Cork University Hospital have been asked to go into isolation, following a positive diagnosis of the disease at the facility.
The move comes after it emerged that some or all of the group might have been in contact with a man who was later confirmed to be infected with coronavirus.
The move is said to be a significant challenge to the hospital given it has only 3,000 staff – 60 is a considerable number to not be working.
It’s understood visitor restrictions are now in place with some elective procedures being cancelled in an effort to halt a spread.
The number of infections in Ireland has now risen to 13.
The HSE has setup a coronavirus hotline on 1850 24 1850.
