A 17-year-old girl who said she was kidnapped while running in western France, prompting a frantic search by hundreds of police officers, admitted her story was a lie, prosecutors said.
When questioned, the teenager identified in the media as Lisa P said she “lied” about the kidnapping by two men on Monday evening and her escape the next day, Laval city prosecutor CĂ©line Maigne said.
The girl’s parents reported her missing on Monday night after failing to return from jogging in a forest near her home in Saint-Brice, a small town about 70 km from Le Mans.
A massive search was undertaken to try and find the teenager. The girl said she was sorry but will now face charges for false reports of a crime.
