Charlie Bird is tonight celebrating with his family and friends after reaching the top of the Reek on Croagh Patrick earlier today.
The former RTE broadcaster climbed to the top of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo today as part of his bid to raise money for two charities, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta.
Charlie had planned to light five candles at the peak of the mountain, one for each terminally ill person, one for people who are in a so-called dark place and climb their own mountain every day, one for the Ukrainian people, one for Covid frontline workers and one for Vicky Phelan who has cervical cancer and was due to climb with Charlie but was unable to do so. However, it’s understood that 11 of her family and friends climbed with the broadcaster to represent her.
Tens of thousands of people around the world in close to 200 separate Climb with Charlie fundraisers are climbing today in Ireland, the United States, South Africa, Australia and Spain.
