A young boy found a large sum of money floating in the Danube last Saturday. More than €100,000 in the form of €500 and €100 notes were spotted floating down the section of the river in Vienna.
The young boy jumped in to collect the cash. The Danube was turned red and green by tens of thousands of scattered euros.
Bystanders rushed to call the emergency services as they thought the boy was committing suicide. Police were able to remove the rest of the cash from the river.
Detectives have reportedly ruled out money-laundering or criminal activity as the source of the money. Under Austrian law, if the rightful owner is not identified within a year, the boy can claim it all.
