A total evacuation of the Kilganey area of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, commenced at 21:00hrs due to the high risk of the River Suir bursting its banks overnight.
The situation around the river has steadily worsened throughout the day, and families are now being ferried to the Clonmel Park hotel, setup as a staging point for the operation.
Residents in Kildare are also on high alert for possiblw flooding, as the ESB was forced to increase the water flow through the Pollaphuca Reservoir.
