The French government has announced a ban on smoking in public parks, forests, and beaches, as well as near schools.
Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau stated that no-smoking areas will become the norm, as part of the government’s anti-smoking program.
“We are now shifting the responsibility and establishing a principle which will become the rule,” Mr Rousseau said, reports RTE.
Additionally, taxes on cigarettes will be increased, with a pack of 20 currently priced at around €11, rising to €12 by 2025 and €13 the following year.
The government also plans to ban single-use disposable e-cigarettes, known as “puffs,” which are popular among young people.
The ultimate goal is to create the first tobacco-free generation by 2032, as promised by President Emmanuel Macron.
