What has taken the UFC world by storm over the past 24 hours is still continuing to make worldwide headlines.
Conor McGregor, the 27-yr-old former plumber from Dublin alluded to his retirement in a tweet last night at 7:30pm Irish time.
Many believed it to be nonsense, a joke, or even some sort of promotion for his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 200. All of that is out the window today.
Dana White, Chairman and CEO of UFC, said that McGregor will definitely not be performing at UFC 200.
Today’s developments see a member of McGregor’s own family tell a European journalist that his retirement is genuine and to be taken on face value. The upcoming promotion for UFC 200 was said to be far too unrealistic and Conor basically has had enough.
Rumours of a $5 million dollar World Wrestling Entertainment deal as well as various Hollywood roles are on the table.
Journalist Jonathan Shrager tweeted the following:
I've just had contact with an immediate family member of #McGregor, and it would appear the retirement tweet is to be taken at face value

#McGregor Update 2/2: Conor informed my source that the promo tour was unrealistic; not just the presser, it was more like a mini world tour
