In a rather surprising move the Fianna Fáil party have passed a motion calling for former Taoiseach and party leader Bertie Ahern to rejoin the party.
Mr Ahern who left the party almost a decade ago has been offered the chance to rejoin by a party branch in Dublin Central.
It is understood the branch will now personally wrote to Mr Ahern asking him to rejoin the party.
The party say the latest motion was passed unanimously and claimed the motion was about ‘loyalty’ to Mr Ahern, and that it would go some way to restoring unity to the party in the capital.
