An elderly man aged in his 70’s has died following a house fire at Shandon Street, North Cork city.
A neighbour raised the alarm shortly after noon Thursday having noticed smoke rising from the house.
Emergency services dashed to the scene where they managed to gain entry to the house.
The body of the man was found on the ground floor of the property. He died from smoke inhalation.
Gardaí are carrying out a technical examination of the scene of the fire, which is not being treated as suspicious.
The deceased’s body was taken to Cork University Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
