Residents in the St. Brendan’s estate in Tralee are to be provided with a public tap for drinking water, after high lead levels were detected in their water supply.

Kerry County Council have confirmed that Irish Water have agreed to an ‘alternative drinking water supply’ for these residents.

Irish Water have said that it is working with the HSE in relation to this matter and an update will be provided to the residents of this estate in the coming days.

An immediate ban on drinking the contaminated water was not issued.

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is taking court action against Kerry County Council and Irish Water over the St. Brendan’s Park issue.
