Authorities in Tanzania have confirmed that at least 136 people have been killed after a ferry carrying hundreds of passengers sank on Lake Victoria on Thursday.
In an announcement made on Friday, rescue workers also said dozens more are missing.
It is believed the ferry which was also carrying cargo toppled over as it was about to dock.
Although rescue efforts resumed this morning, authorities in the region say many more of the estimated 300 are feared dead as waters on the lake are rough.
It is not yet known what caused the ferry to capsize, but initial reports suggest that it may have been overloaded.
