African woman and former creche worker living in Cork jailed for distributing sex abuse videos of a baby and 12 year old boy on WhatsApp

Evelyn Ajie, 51-yr-old grandmother and former creche worker originally from Nigeria but living in Ireland for 18 years appeared before Cork District Court where she pleaded guilty to three charges, reports Breakingnews.ie

The court heard Ajie is housebound due to ill health including arthritis and suffers from cataracts. Her solicitor said Ajie worked in a creche between 2012 and 2015 but gave up her job there due to poor health.

According to BreakingNews.ie, Sgt Pat Lyons told Judge Olann Kelleher Ajie belonged to WhatsApp groups in Italy, Spain and her native Nigeria.

She received the pornographic videos, which involved the sexual abuse of a baby and pre-pubescent boy of twelve, in a WhatsApp group and forwarded them on to others.

The distribution of the pornographic messages was flagged last year by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. Google also alerted gardai in relation to the issue, reports BreakingNews.ie

Ajie pleaded guilty to two charges of knowingly distributing child pornography whereby she knowingly showed it or facilitated any activity for the purpose of distribution, publication, exportation or show. Ajie also pleaded guilty to a third charge that she knowingly had in her possession three videos described as child pornography stored on a device, reports BreakingNews.ie

According to the site, Ajie received a nine month prison sentence but has been released on bail of €500 pending appeal of her sentence.
