And then there were five: Another Dublin beach closed due to pollution

The dreaded ‘Do not swim’ has gone up in yet another Dublin beach, the fifth in less than a week.

Velvet Strand Beach in Portmanrock has now been closed by Fingal County Council due to heavy contamination, and it is expected to be off limits to swimmers until Monday at the earliest.

Officials believe that sewage from the nearby Portmarnock Strand Pumping Station spilled on to the water at the beach.

Beaches in Rush, Balbriggan, Skerries and Loughshinny were closed last week due to similar issues.
