People have been advised to be aware that their PUP payment may well be checked in the coming weeks and months as people return to work.
A special Garda unit has been set up to check that people close their Pandemic Unemployment Claim (PUP) claims on the very day they return to work.
The task force, involving over 20 operatives, will be solely dedicated to track down payments and claimants to ensure ongoing eligibility.
While thousands of people still depend on the payment for rent and food, it is understood that the special PUP ops team will leave no stone unturned to ensure that every overpaid penny is returned.
