Border counties in trouble as possible ‘Red Zones’ will be introduced to stop spread




Scientists have recommended |”red zones” in Border counties between the North of Ireland and the Republic in which residents are asked to stay within their county, or within a 5km radius and sewage testing among recommendations to prevent the cross border spread of Covid-19.

The Independent Scientific Advocacy Group (ISAG), suggests introducing so-called “red zones” along the border between the six counties and the Republic in which residents would be asked to stay within their county, or within a 5km radius if required, with exceptions afforded to essential workers or those who need medical assistance the Independent reported.

The issue of the border between the Republic and the North of Ireland has been hotly debated with the UK departing the European Union and issue of the Chinese virus has added to the tensions of the contentious partition.
