Fianna Fáil TD Malcolm Byrne has confirmed that he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Early on Thursday morning, while travelling from his hotel in Dublin to Dublin Airport, he was stopped at a mandatory Garda checkpoint in the city centre.
Mr Byrne said he is cooperating fully with gardaí and immediately informed Fianna Fáil. The party confirmed that Mr Byrne had notified them of the arrest on suspicion of drink driving.
It added that, as this is an ongoing investigation and Mr Byrne is cooperating fully with An Garda Síochána, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
