Police in germany say that an “unknown number of gunmen on are the loose” after at least eight people were shot dead and five others badly injured by gunfire in the German town of Hanau, east of Frankfurt shortly after 10pm.
Local media broadcaster Hessenschau reports that two shooting incidents took place at two shisha bars in the city, which is around 15 miles from Frankfurt.
Several roads have been blocked off and helicopters deployed as authorities search for an unknown number of gunmen who remain on the loose with police saying that they have no idea of the motive at this time.
Police have advised people to stay indoors in the region until further notice.
