In a strongly worded judgment delivered today, the High Court in Ireland ordered the immediate arrest and imprisonment of Enoch Burke, describing his and his family’s actions as the most deliberate, sustained, and concerted attack on the civil courts and the rule of law in recent times.
Mr Justice Brian Cregan was ruling on an application by Wilson’s Hospital School seeking Mr Burke’s committal to prison for persistently breaching a permanent injunction barring him from the school premises, reports RTE.
The judge noted that previous measures—including substantial fines (none of which Mr Burke has paid) and the deployment of security guards—had utterly failed to deter him, leaving imprisonment as the only remaining option to enforce the court’s orders.
According to RTE, Mr Justice Cregan further directed that criminal contempt proceedings be initiated against Enoch Burke, his brother Isaac, his sister Ammi, and their mother Martina, arising from their disruptive conduct during court hearings.
Emphasising the narrow scope of the case, the judge stated that the decision had nothing to do with transgenderism. He clarified that the court had never required Mr Burke to address any pupil by preferred pronouns or to say or do anything that might contravene his religious beliefs. The sole issue, he stressed, was Mr Burke’s repeated trespass in defiance of valid court orders.
Either way, the judge issued an immediate arrest and jail sentence, with gardai said to be on the way to Enoch Burke to arrest him.
