In breaking news this morning, three police officers have been shot dead and a fourth injured in central France and they responded to a domestic hostage situation where a gunman opened fire.
According to the French news channel BFMTV, the officers were responding to a report of domestic violence at a house in the town of Puy-de-Dome when the attacker opened fire on all four men.
Town Mayor Francois Chautard said the officers were shot by a male suspect on arrival at the property.
The incident is still under way but a woman who was inside the home is said to be now out of the house and safe.
