A copy of Mein Kampf (‘My struggle‘), owned by Adolf Hitler himself, sold for $20,655 (€18,320) at an auction in the US today.
The book, written by the Nazi leader, was found in his Munich apartment on May 2, 1945, by members of an US field artillery battalion attached to the 45th Infantry Division, one of the first allied units to liberate Munich. 11 officers of the battalion signed the book’s flyleaf when it was found.
One member of the unit brought the book back home to the US after the end of the war, and there it remained until today. It was sold to an American buyer at the auction house in Chesapeake City, Maryland.
‘Mein Kampf’ is an autobiography of the Nazi leader, written while incarcerated after the failed attempt to seize power in Bavaria. The book lays out the framework for the Nazi party’s ideology.
