According to reports it is understood that a number of officials from Dublin City Council’s Housing Committee are set meet up this evening in order to address the current issue of providing emergency accommodation for homeless families.
The meeting comes after the City Council agreed on five possible sites to build new modular homes late last night. However it seems that the five sites provided in Ballymun, Drimnagh, Coolock, Finglas and Ballyfermot have come in for strong criticism as many local Councillors say the above areas are already have issues with social deprivation.
It is now widely expected that officials from the city council will sit down to discus the possibility of other local authorities from across Dublin to provide adequate sites.
Meanwhile Ballymun Labour Councillor Andrew Montague has given his view on the latest developments saying he is extremely surprised at the first sites picked for the modular homes. Mr Montague told reporters: “I was a little taken aback by the spread, you know these houses are going where we already have a lot of social housing. I would have liked to see a better spread, I think it is more important, first things first, it’s a small number in a big community like this, I think we can absorb them.”
