Ed Sheeran records his hit single ‘Thinking Out Loud’ as Gaeilge

Ed Sheeran has recorded a version of his massive hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’ in Irish for an upcoming album of Irish language songs. Ed  recorded the song in Australia last month after 2FM presenter Eoghan McDermott provided the lyrics phonetically. The song, now called ‘Ag Smaoineamh Os Ard’ was first played on McDermott’s show today and they posted a link to the audio of the song on the 2FM Facebook page.

The song wull feature on the upcoming CEOL 2016 le hEoghan McDermott CD. Kodaline, The Coronas, Delorentos and more will feature on the CD also.  The album will be distributed to all schools and to Third Level students from January 2016. It can also be downloaded from Conradh na Gaeilge’s website with a unique code. Details on winning a code are available on Conradh na Gaeilge’s Facebook page.

The Riptide Movement, Ham Sandwich, The Academic, Hudson Taylor, Keywest, Daithi, Seo Linn, Roisin O and Preasráiteas also feature on the CD line-up.

“Getting Ed Sheeran to record a bespoke version of one of the biggest songs in the world is incredible,” said McDermott. “The fact he is singing as Gaeilge makes it all the better! Ed and the host of other incredible musicians on our CD shows that the use of the Irish language is being revolutionised at the moment, particularly in music. This album shows that anyone can speak as Gaeilge and that we should all give it a go.
