Eight newborn babies killed afrer fire breaks out in hospital maternity wing




Authorities in Algeria have confirmed that eight newborn babies have died following a fire at a hospital.

According to ENTV, the devastating deaths occurred after a fire broke out in the maternity wing at Al-Um Bashir bin Nasser Hospital in El Oued Souf.

ENTV reports that three of the babies died due to burn injuries, whilst five others died due to asphyxiation.

It is not yet known what caused the fire, but it is reported that it was caused by a faulty anti-mosquito device.

Authorities said that a total of 78 people escaped the blaze unharmed.

They added that an investigation is currently ongoing.
