According to outgoing Tanaiste Joan Burton, who is in serious risk of losing her seat in the coming election, has said that she’ll be jittery on polling day, but still feels proud of the Government’s record.
In her own recollection, she says that what she hears the most while canvassing is ‘I think you’ve been doing a very good job, you just haven’t been able to do everything’.”
Meanwhile, polls say otherwise. The Labour party is largely expected to cease to exist as a political force on February 26.
Nevertheless, Joan Burton says that “Usually what I do is I go and get my hair done (on polling day) and then around 11 o’clock people start phoning.”
One must look good in the face of shameful defeat, then.
