Electric scooter users may face large fines if they are caught breaking the current speed limit of 25km/h

Electric scooter users may soon face hefty fines if they are caught breaking the speed limit, which is currently set at 25km/h.

The measures are being considered after Gardai encountered some scooter models capable of reaching upwards of 40km/h, which creates a clear danger both for users and pedestrians.

This relatively new method of transportation does not currently require any type of licence, nor is it taxed or insured.
