Singer-song write Elton John has called for a boycott of the Sultan of Brunei’s hotels in reaction to the country passing a law that will see homosexual men stoned to death for same sex relationships.

The East Asian nation adopted strict sharia, Islamic Law, in 2014 and since moved closer to full interpretation of the Muslim legal code.

The long-time gay rights activists joined actor George Clooney to “send a message” to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in rebuking his Islamic law.

Homosexuality is punishable by death in Afghanistan, Iran, Mauritania, Sudan, Nigeria, Yemen, Saudi Arabi, Qatar and Somalia while in other countries such as Iraq local sharia courts often condemn homosexuals death.

A broad survey of UK muslims in 2016 found that over half believe that homosexuality should be a criminal offence.

Some online however, have called for a boycott of Elton John in response to his alleged “Islamophobia”.
