Residents and businesses in areas most at risk of flooding in Galway have been put on high alert due to coming high tides next week, forecast to be the highest in 18 years.
Water levels are expected to rise to 20 feet on September 27, nearly four inches above the quay wall at Spanish Arch.
The areas most at risk are Flood Street, Fishmarket Square, Quay Lane and all areas opposite the Prom.
City council workers will fit in additional flood defences to prevent serious damage.
