After what gardai describe as a “high profile media campaign”. they charged a Dublin taxi driver with raping a woman in his car in Dublin.
According to RTE, the 35-yr-old man was arrested in his home on Monday morning and appeared in court in the afternoon.
The man was charged with two counts of rape and two other charges of oral rape of the woman, who was in her 20s, at Emmet Street, in Dublin’s north inner city, between 3am and 4am of December 9th 2018.
According to RTE, bail was set at €6,000 with a requirement to abide by strict conditions which include a complete ban on driving a taxi.
The foreign national who cannot be named for legal reason said that he denies the charges via his solicitor. It’s understood that gardai objected to bail because the accused is a foreign national and is a flight risk to get out his sexual charges.
The accused left Ireland after the alleged incident took place but subsequently returned after a massive media campaign.
According to RTE, the foreign national man has to sign on at his local garda station daily and cannot leave his house between 10pm and 6am.
That taxpayer is funding the foreign national’s legal team after free legal aid was granted.
