French authorities fear that the extreme heat may cause the fragile roof of Notre Dame to collapse

French authorities are concerned that the extreme heat currently sweeping through Paris and elsewhere in Europe may cause the fragile roof of Notre Dame Cathedral to collapse.

According to experts, the structure remains in a weakened state since the blaze earlier this year, and it’s feared that the high temperatures may cause the masonry joints to dry out, potentially precipitating a total collapse.

Experts are now working on ways to reinforce and stabilize the entire structure.
