The national forecaster has issued a new weather warning for deep cold, as temperatures dropped to -5c overnight.
The warning covers the entire country, came into effect at midnight and remains until at least midday today.
Gardai have advised that widespread ice and hard frost formation are expected nationwide, so motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution during rush hour this morning.
