Gardai confiscate two e-scooters in Irish county after two people were caught driving them on footpaths

Gardaí confiscated two electric scooters in County Donegal after seeing people use them on footpaths in Buncrana over the weekend.

The e-scooters were seized on Sunday evening by two people who were seen driving them on footpaths.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said that electric scooters are defined as mechanically powered vehicles and that they must be roadworthy.

E-scooter drivers are also required to have insurance, road tax, and a driver’s license.

Since it is currently not possible to tax or insure electric scooters or electric scooters, they are not suitable for use in public places, such as footpaths and people cannot under any circumstance drive an e-scooter on footpaths.
