Nikolas Löbel, a member of Angela Merkel’s CDU party is to quit parliament and not seek re-election after revelations about a series of deals on protective face masks that led to him receiving €250,000.
According to RT, a company owned by Löbel negotiated deals between a Chinese face-mask manufacturer and private healthcare companies in Germany. The politician netted a massive €250,000.
Public anger led to calls for his resignation. Löbel has since announced that he would retire from politics and the end of August.
The German public continue to push for his immediate resignation.
