Get the thermals on! Met Eireann say it’s about to get very cold next week

According to Met Éireann, next week will see a “significantly colder” temperature dip, reports RTE.

According to the forecaster’s advice, an arctic airmass will move over the nation from the north starting on Tuesday, bringing with it daytime temperatures between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius.

It is predicted that nighttime temperatures will drop below freezing, resulting in widespread ice and frost.

A lot of the nation will have continuous rain, while Ulster may get some sleet and snow on Monday, according to Met Éireann, reports RTE.

Additionally, it warned that frost, ice, and showers will be prevalent starting Monday, with the northern and western regions of the nation seeing the most of these conditions.

Met Éireann issued a warning about dangerous ground conditions, low visibility, and snow showers due to the cold snap, reports RTE.

People will receive “quite a shock” as temperatures are expected to drop sharply after a “unusually mild start” this month, according to the forecaster’s Deputy Head of Forecasting.

Liz Coleman said: “Details are uncertain with the exact track of a low-pressure system on Sunday night and during Monday, but at present, some heavy and persistent rain is expected in the west and north with the possibility of some sleet and snow over parts of Ulster on Monday. However, there is a high degree of certainty that by next Tuesday it is going to turn much colder as an Arctic airmass sinks over the country from the north,” reports RTE.

“Daytime temperatures will often range around 2 to 6 degrees with night-time temperatures widely falling below freezing, bringing widespread frost and ice. The northerly airflow will also bring showers of sleet and snow, these most frequent over the northern half of the country but there is potential for some showers to reach further south. These conditions will bring some hazardous travelling conditions, travel disruptions and poor visibility,” reports RTE.
