Health Minister Stephen Donnelly compares Covid risk to that of other risks such as driving a car




The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has compared the risks of Covid to other such daily risks, including that of driving a car.

In an interview with Virgin Media News aboutr children returning to school, the Health Minister also said that everything in life comes with inherent risks but in reality they are the same things that must be done in every day life.

Donnelly who said that the Government’s main priority was to get children back to school, also compared the risks to that of children using a trampoline.

It is understood that Donnelly’s comments come as number of parents questioned the idea that up to 30 children can be placed into a classroom but yet families and homeowners are restricted to having no more than six people visit their home.

Speaking to Virgin Media News, Donnelly said everything in life comes with inherent risk including driving a car or playing sports.

The Health Minister said that although those every day those activities are somewhat risky we do have a number of safety measures in place such as seatbelts and the rules of the road.

He went onto say that schools are a controlled environment and a number of measures have been put in place over the last number of weeks to control that environment even further.

When asked by Virgin Media News if the pandemic carries significantly greater risks than playing sports or driving a car.

Donnelly said that it is not necessarily the case that the pandemic is a greater risk to driving a car or playing sports. But instead it is about managing that risk until a successful vaccine is found.
