The beloved dog of its owner paid its one final touching tribute as it followed her hearse to her grave earlier this week.
Margo Magan, from Killashee in Longford, died on Friday December 30 surrounded by her family in the care of Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.
Margo, a famous swimmer, table tennis player and golfer who died at the age of 94, was Lady Captain of Longford Golf Club in 1971 and First Lady President of the Club in 1996.
In a heartbreaking photo taken by Margo’s great-granddaughter Tamara Gervasoni, Margo’s beloved dog was seen leading mourners behind the hearse as Margo’s remains were unearthed after her mass funeral at St.
Margo’s son Mike paid tribute to her on Twitter and posted the touching picture. He wrote:
“We said our final goodbye to our remarkable mum Margo at 94. She loved her dog. Mother of 12. Champion swimmer, holder of many titles/records, top golfer, 1st female president of a golf club in Ireland. Active until recently having swam Xmas day 3 years ago. Legend,” reports The Mirror.
Mike also said his mother was a first cousin of playwright Samuel Beckett.
