Police in India have rescued a woman after she was found locked inside a toilet at her family home.
According to The Daily Mail newspaper, the 35 year old woman was allegedly kept inside a 3x3ft toilet at her home by her husband.
The shocking incident which occurred in Panipat, has now led to a police investigation as it is believed that the woman was kept in the confined space for almost a year and a half.
It is believed that the woman who has three young children was found severely malnourished and lying on the floor of the toilet.
The Daily Mail reports, that police investigating the incident say they found the woman after concerned locals notified the local women’s protection officer.
It is alleged that the woman’s husband had denied her food for a number of days at a time and when she was rescued she was unable to walk.
Police investigating say the woman’s husband has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
However he has since claimed that his wife is mentally unstable and has been treated for a psychiatric condition, but officers became suspicious of his claims as he was unable to provide medical documents to prove his wife’s condition.
It is understood that the woman has since been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment and has been taken into the care of relative.
