The US President Joe Biden has scrapped President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender men and women from serving in the US military.

It’s understood that Biden signed an executive order that reverses his predecessor’s 2017 ban. Speaking about Biden’s decision to scrap the ban, a White House spokesman said that Biden’s order ‘sets the policy that all Americans who are qualified to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States should be able to serve.’

It’s understood that the spokesman added: ‘President Biden believes that gender identity should not be a bar to military service, and that America’s strength is found in its diversity.’ Biden’s new order immediately prohibits any kind of anti-trans discrimination against existing servicemen and women, or trans people who hope to enlist.

In July 2017, President Trump announced the ban saying: ‘After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the US Military.
