Kamala Harris said to be genuinely ‘thinking about’ a 2028 presidential election run

Former US vice president Kamala Harris has indicated she is seriously weighing up another run for the presidency.

She made the remarks at the National Action Network’s annual convention, where several Democratic figures seen as potential 2028 candidates gathered in an effort to connect with Black voters. reports Breaking News.

“I might. I am thinking about it,” Ms Harris told Rev Al Sharpton after he directly asked whether she intended to run again in 2028, reports Breaking News.

The Democratic primary race is not expected to fully begin until after November’s midterm elections, but this week’s event highlighted early positioning among candidates in what is likely to be a competitive field. reports Breaking News.

At present, there is no obvious frontrunner, although one candidate stood out at Rev Sharpton’s gathering.

During her speech, some attendees interrupted with chants of “run again”.

Rev Sharpton pointed out that Ms Harris received more votes in her unsuccessful 2024 campaign than former Democratic presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, reports Breaking News.

Since leaving office 15 months ago, Ms Harris has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of another presidential campaign, even as parts of the party begin to turn their attention to a newer generation of leadership. reports Breaking News.

Among those appearing at the convention were Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois governor JB Pritzker, Maryland governor Wes Moore, and Kentucky governor Andy Beshear.

While many were questioned about their 2028 ambitions, Ms Harris gave the clearest indication of her thinking. reports Breaking News.

She reiterated three times, “I’m thinking about it”, when asked by Rev Sharpton about a potential White House bid.

“I served for four years being a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States. I spent countless hours in my West Wing office footsteps away from the Oval Office. I spent countless hours in the Oval Office and the situation room. I know what the job is, and I know what it requires,” Ms Harris said, reports Breaking News.

She added: “I am thinking about it in the context of who and where and how can the best job be done for the American people. That’s how I’m thinking about it. I’ll keep you posted,” reports Breaking News.
