Whether justice will be served or not is the question on the lips at the moment of people living in a leafy holiday resort in Italy.
Two teenage girls from Britain have testified in court in Italy against the eight men they accuse of drugging and raping them in a ‘brutal and extreme attack’ in a holiday villa.
The girls, who were 15 when the crime allegedly occurred earlier this month, were at a party in the town of Pisticci in the south of Italy where they claim eight gatecrashers drugged and raped them. One told the court the ordeal lasted 15 minutes before one of the victims bit an attacker.
Eight men, aged between 19 and 23, are standing trial in the city of Matera and all deny the charges, claiming the girls gave full consent. The two schoolgirls have been commended for their bravery in testifying in court, with both missing the start of UK school terms to stay in Italy for trial and one spending her 16th birthday preparing for the case away from friends and family.
