Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly concerned that some buildings might lead to their residents having asthma

There are twice as many respiratory diseases among the occupants of one of the largest and oldest apartment buildings in Dublin as there are in the surrounding neighbourhoods, reports Breaking News.

According to a recently released study by Trinity College Dublin, people who live in Oliver Bond House in The Liberties have a 2.4 times higher likelihood of having asthma in their medical records than other patients who visit the same neighbourhood general practitioner.

Eight out of ten tenants of the apartment complex are dealing with mould and moisture, according to a previous investigation, reports Breaking News.

Stephen Donnelly, the Minister for Health, welcomed the research and expressed worry over its results.

“I think it’s important to see if it fits with the clinical advice we have and the public health advice we have that the physical surroundings matter in terms of healthcare and in terms of underlying conditions.”
