New children’s hospital will have 380 beds but critics say it’s already too small before it’s even finished

The Dáil has heard that the new National Children’s Hospital would have 380 beds, not 300 as has been stated in certain places, reports RTE.

According to a video that Social Democrats TD Catherine Murphy highlighted, 300 beds would be “entirely unacceptable” if true.

Speaking at Leaders’ Questions, Minister Darragh O’Brien stated that there are 380 beds total—300 ensuite rooms, 60 critical care rooms, and 20 CAHMs beds—based on the information he has access to today, reports RTE.

Additionally, the minister informed the Dáil that the Irish Thalidomide Association (ITA) should be granted a fresh start on the compensation procedure.

“I really do want to see that process restart,” he told Labour Party leader Ivana Bacik, reports RTE.
