
Console have developed a helpline through the use of text.
The charity has noted a huge increase in the amount of people asking for help because of this new service.
In the first six months of the year, Console recorded a 49% increase in the amount of young men seeking help through their phones.
On a worldwide scale, the number of women seeking support far outnumbers men, in some cases, up to three times more women seek help.
But according to Console 2/3 of all 3,914 texts sent to the service were men.
Trained professionals monitor the Console helpine 24 hours a day, regularly develop a rapport with the people messaging the service, and often the professionals then resort to verbal communication.
Enda Murphy, an expert in mental health said this is effort is a major breakthrough in fight against suicide.
He stated “Console are communicating to young men in their way and not insisting they learn and communicate in our way. I believe that they have found the road to the future,”
