A death row inmate was executed in the United States when the Trump administration gave the go ahead on Friday.

Former truck driver Alfred Bourgeois, 56, was killed by a fatal injection on Friday in Terre Haute Federal Prison, Indiana.
Bourgeois was convicted in 2004 of killing his own defenceless 2-yr-old daughter by hitting her head four times against the windows and dashboard of a truck.

The truck driver was granted temporary custody of the girl in 2002. For the next month, he whipped her with a power cord, burned her feet with a lighter, and hit her on the head with a gun and also a baseball bat.

Prosecutors also said he sexually assaulted her.

Finally, he killed the girl in his truck after he became angry about her potty training.

After the attack, he asked his wife to lie to the emergency personnel, saying the girl was injured when he fell from the truck.
One of Bourgeois’ attorneys, Shawn Nolan, said he started drawing in prison and was not a troublemaker.

He reportedly prayed for redemption after being given 21 days notice of his execution, far less than the usual 90 days notice. The lawyers had argued that Bourgeois had an intellectual disability that should have made him ineligible for the death penalty under federal law. Several appeal courts found that neither the evidence nor the criminal law for intellectual disabilities upheld the allegations.
