Professor Philip Nolan says Covid-19 rates are plateauing but warns there is a very long way to go

Professor Philip Nolan has said that early signs are suggesting that the current Covid-19 rate is plateauing but has warned that there is a very long way to go before we are at a situation were the virus becomes once again manageable.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, professor Nolan said the latest indications are suggesting that restrictions are having an effect in terms of the spread of the virus.

However he warned that these early signs are indication that we have a long way to go to get the virus back under control.

Nolan said we must redouble our efforts to surpress the virus which has been out of control recently.

Nolan’s comments come as the Department of Health confirmed 6,521 cases and 10 furtger Covid-19 related deaths on Thursday.
