As we broke early this morning, New York City went into lockdown for a brief period after a series of explosions occurred.

The NYPD have confirmed that at least 25 people have been injured in what they have described as an “improvised explosive device” at 135 23rd St between Sixth and Seventh avenues in New York City.

It was not immediately clear how many people were injured or the severity of their injuries but they have said that the explosion happened as people were out enjoying the social scene where the explosion occurred.

The FDNY, NYPD and Counterterrorism Unit were quickly on the scene, and it has been reported in the States that at least one of the explosions was deliberate.

The explosion comes after a pipe bomb exploded in Seaside Park, New Jersey near the Semper Five 5K Charity Run Route. The device was placed in a garbage can and exploded in the afternoon but thankfully saw no casualties.

A second device believed to be a small bomb device in a pressurised cooker was also found.

New Yorkers are said to be high alert for any suspicious looking behaviour and the authorities have asked the public to report anything they see immediately.
