Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today ruled out the possibility of increasing rent supplement to tackle the rampant homelessness crisis.
A year to the day when homeless man Jonathan Corrie perished to the elements nere yards from Ireland’s corridors or power, the situation has changed little, according to Sinn Fein. The party has called for a declaration of national housing emergency, while Fianna Fail are asking for an increase in the rent supplement.
However, our Taoiseach, in all his self-serving wisdom, has said that “You want to throw money at every on every problem”
“Now if you decide to increase the rent subsidy, that does not improve the supply of housing by one unit. It merely puts more pressure on the existing housing stock and it makes the situation worse.”
