January was the worst month on record for overcrowding with over 12,000 people waiting on trolleys at the country’s A&E departments.
The worrying figures published by the Irish Midwives and Nurses Organisation (INMO), found that there were exactly 12,201 people waiting on trolleys last month.
According to the INMO the latest figures represented an 18% increase in numbers compared to January 2017, whilst the scandalous figures also represented a 128% increase since 2007.
The INMO say University Hospital Limerick was the worst affected hospital last month with 1,003 patients waiting on trolleys, whilst St Vincent’s hospital was the worst affected hospital in the Dublin region with 559 people left waiting.
