As many as 200,000 secondary school pupils will have to stay home tomorrow, as a large number of institutions will remain closed.

There is a deepening rift between the Association of Secondary School Teachers of Ireland (ASTI) and the Department of Education, which means that there is quite a bit of uncertainty as to when schools will open again.

Negotiations continue between the affected parties, but it is unclear whether a resolution can be reached in the short term.
